Me and This Girl.
We go back as far as ten months after my birth. My longest standing friend. My favorite female gal.
This Girl and I have talked every single day since the beginning. No matter how far apart we have been geographically placed over the years, we have always found a way to daily connect. We talk about everything. We listen, we give advice, we side with each other.
This Girl and I have been through so much together. Marriages, divorces, babies being born, kids growing up, career changes, lifestyle changes, family deaths, disappointments, frustrations, religious experiences, aging, faith being tried, happy times, sad times, fun times, frustrating times.
Through it all This Girl and I have never wavered in our love and commitment to each other, and we have already made a pact that we never will.
This Girl is my sweet sis and I love her and appreciate her more than mere words can express.
These days we have added the care and concern of our dying Dad into the mix. We visit hospitals, doctor offices, and assisted living facilities together. Soon we will be walking with hospice care together.
This morning This Girl and I will be celebrating our sorrows by enjoying breakfast and watching a marathon of “What Not To Wear” episodes together.
Every now and then a Saturday works out for us to enjoy spending fun sister time just doing things like that.
I was blessed to be raised in a home with five sisters living there with me. Every one of them is a delight and a joy to be around.
But This Girl – well, she’s been my personal buddy from the beginning – so I guess you could call her my favorite.
All my adult life I have dreamed of living close enough to enjoy the opportunity to just hang out with her again. In February of 2014, God used a set of unfortunate circumstances to allow that dream to come true.
Isn’t it wonderful how God works everything together for the good for those that love Him and are just willing to live according to His purpose? I sure do think so.
He used my awful divorce as a catalyst to plant me in this coastal land filled with sunshine, palm trees, ocean waves, and the opportunity to fellowship in real time with This Girl.
By the way, if the truth be known, God is my very favorite too.
